SUMMARY:

In Brazil, the telenovela is one of the most watched cultural products and Rede Globo television is the largest producer of telenovelas in the country. Therefore, thinking about the social images that are produced by the telenovela, this research aims to analyze the racial and gender representations of the black homosexual characters Jeferson and Cido present in the telenovelas A Próxima Vítima (1995) and O Outro Lado do Paraíso (2017-2018), realizing the discourses and ideologies used in each production. Both were originally shown by Rede Globo during its prime time, one of the most important schedules for the broadcaster's schedule. To this end, an analysis of the discourses present in the two plots was carried out under the prism of the intersectionality of the categories race, gender and sexuality, comparing the representation of both characters. Thus, the analyzes carried out during the work were based on the writings of authors such as Ester Hamburguer (1998), Denise Ferreira da Silva (1991), Joel Zito Araújo (2019), Lilian Moritz Schwarcz (1998; 1994), bell hooks (2019 ), Osmundo Pinho (2004; 2015).
