RESUMO:

This project presents an interdisciplinary research proposal for teaching and learning of English to juvenile delinquents as a resocializing extra-school activity. It arose from the author's practical observation regarding the lack of re-socializing activities for these young people that consider all peculiarities and c hallenges of their socio-cultural conditions. The research will use dialectical/historical materialism as method and will be based on theories of Applied Linguistics, a field of trandisciplinary and intercultural study that identifies and uses solutions to problems related to language in real life. Considering that language and social life cannot be separated, given its complexity, LA establishes dialogues with other areas of study in this project such as: Education, Philosophy, Psychology, Law and Social Work. It will has as general objective: Analyze re-socializing possibilities of teaching English as an extra-school activity for juvenile delinquents that are accomplishing MSE (Socio-educational Measure) through active methodologies and in a decolonized way. Its specific objectives will be: Promote an English-language mini-course for adolescents accomplishing MSE at CREAS in Teixeira de Freitas to assess the potential of English as a re-socializing activity; Investigate, through active methodologies, the processes of teaching English juvenile delinquents; Understand the relationship that adolescents in compliance of MSE make between the world, the English language, society and themselves. The methodology used will be action research.
