SUMMARY:

The Prom in Congo and Samba of St. Benedict are cultural games found in the north of Espírito Santo, in Vila de Itaúnas, municipality of Conceição da Barra, this territory,originating from the miscegenation of Indians, blacks and Europeans, who formed the bank of the River Itaúnas the community of traditional fishermen and small family farmers, which is considered a traditional community according to the formulation of Decree nº. 6,040, of February 7, 2007.  The present research is qualitative research, which aims to analyze through collective memories and oral history the process of maintaining these manifestations in the light of tradition, devotion and challenges. We will investigate how public policies are being applied in the cultural sector . Through field research, we interviewed twenty-four collaborators among the players, masters, and party-goers of the two cultural manifestations. We will describe and analyze the narratives collected through dialogues with research collaborators. Thus, the research intends to contribute to the process of strengthening the sociocultural identity of communities, fostering dialogue and the search for cooperative relationships, in challenges, between different cultures and subjects, who in a certain way are involved in the maintenance of cultural manifestations, aiming to preserve and enhance the sociocultural identities of the groups and the knowledge they represent. Foster the creation of specific public policies based on the mapping of the challenges faced by these groups, and the institutions that represent them and work in the territory in favor of culture. Produce and socialize new knowledge about the experiences of cultural manifestations in contemporary times.
