Funk: A brotherhood that emerges in the quilombola community of Helvécia
Keywords: Funk; Helvetia; Brotherhood; Tradition.
The project's research theme is the presence of funk in the Quilombola community of Helvécia (Nova Viçosa/BA), with the objective of questioning whether the manifestations previously identified as traditional are the only ways of identifying the community as. This is an ethnographic research, as it will make it possible to map cultural manifestations of the community in interviews and experiences of different sociability occasions, such as parties, meetings and collective entertainment, in which a generational shock experienced by the community can be observed. On the one hand, there are those who defend the manifestations already crystallized as responsible for maintaining the quilombola identity, on the other, young people like those from the “Os Brutos” group who see funk as a legitimate practice that is compatible with tradition. Between them, this research seeks to understand the contemporary flows of the Quilombola culture in Helvécia. The study dialogues with the teachings of young people from the Os Brutos group, seeking to understand the identity formation of the youth community and, as a theoretical basis, it relies mainly on Hobsbawn (1990), Hall (2006), Bhabha (1986), Barbero (2009) and Canclini (2011)
