Estimation of carbon stock in different forest types in the southern region of Bahia
Ecosystem services, Forest restoration, LIDAR, Conservation of forest resources, Climate change
Conservation strategies based on payment for ecosystem services is in the global focus for biodiversity conservation and reversal of global climate change. The recognition of the significant potential for the return of ecosystem functioning (resilience) and the potential for atmospheric carbon sequestration by biomass carried out by secondary forests and restored forests is a stage for scientific and business interests. The proposal has two general objectives: (i) to study and develop more efficient methods and technologies for monitoring diversity and carbon stock in tree species in areas of native and restored forests; (ii) monitor and develop more accurate methods for assessing the carbon stock in the litter fraction. This project intends to provide more specific and optimized parameters and estimates on the maintenance of the provision of ecosystem services aimed at carbon sequestration in areas of native and restored forests owned by Veracel. At the end of it, it will be possible to obtain data on the carbon stock, as well as generate analysis tools that allow the monitoring of the carbon stock.
