SUMMARY:
The gypsum used in civil construction is obtained by calcining the mineral gypsum, forming the hemihydrate,
which, in contact with water, hydrates, forming the dihydrate again. However, during the gypsum recycling process,
the material loses part of its initial properties, so it is of scientific and technological interest to understand this
process, aiming at physical, chemical, mechanical and microstructural improvements. The traditional building
elements used in social housing projects generally employ industrialized construction systems, which bring with
them a series of impacts, such as the inadequacy of projects, failures to meet the requirements of habitability
and sustainability, among others. In this sense, this work aims to develop panels for vertical sealing, to be used
in social housing, through a new composite material of the type gypsum residue - fiber - polymeric additive,
seeking to meet the parameters of functionality and sustainability. With the powdered material, we are working
on calcination at a specific temperature, not too high, and with two different grinding degrees, fineness modulus
analysis, unit mass, specific mass and X-ray diffraction. With the material in pastes in the fresh state,
it is intended to analyze the consistency, setting times and heat of hydration. And in the hardened state,
analyze hardness, flexural strength, scanning electron microscopy – SEM and water absorption by capillarity.
Preliminary results indicate that the composites being produced in this work have great potential and technical,
economic and environmental viability for residential use.
