IUD AS A CONTRACEPTIVE METHOD IN PRIMARY CARE: VERIFICATION OF KNOWLEDGE, PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND IMPLEMENTATION |
The Intrauterine Device (IUD) is a reversible method of contraception, which can be used indefinitely, whose contraceptive efficacy is well accepted by the academic community. Therefore, the IUD failure rate occurs around 0.8% while the therapeutic failure of oral contraceptives (OAC) occurs between 4.8% to 9.4%. The IUD is more secure than the ACO, as it is not patient-dependent. In Brazil, only 1.9% of women of childbearing age use an IUD (BRASIL, 2018). However, in England the rate of IUD use is 10% and in China, the rate reaches 40%. Such countries are considered developed according to the Human Development Index, which analyzes several criteria, among which the birth rate. In this way, understanding the low adherence in the national territory, as well as substantiating the benefits of contraception with a uterine device, it is understood that encouraging the insertion of the IUD in primary care is an important tool for birth control, reduction of gestational and neonatal complications , in addition to promoting a better cost-benefit ratio for management. Thus, the objective of this research is to cover theory and practice on the insertion of IUDs for Primary Health Care professionals in the micro region of Teixeira de Freitas/BA. This is a quantitative, descriptive study, associated with action research, whose target audience are primary care professionals, to verify theoretical weaknesses on the subject, and training professionals authorized to perform the insertion of the IUD. The supporting institutions are the Family Planning Institute and the Federal University of Southern Bahia. Support is expected from the 13 municipalities in the Teixeira de Freitas microregion, with the aim of identifying weaknesses in the knowledge of Primary Care (AB) professionals about the IUD, promoting theoretical training for the entire primary care team on the IUD, enabling training practice in pelvic model for AB physicians and donate intrauterine devices to municipalities. There is the possibility of extending the project to a doctorate, through the analysis of women who adhere to the use of the IUD. |
