CAMPUS AS A SUSTAINABILITY LAB: PROJECT STRATEGIES FOR BETTER ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE OF SOUTH BAHIA INSTITUTIONS
EnvironmentalComfort, Ecodesign,Ecoefficiency, Green Infrastructure, Renewable Energies.
The way in which human interventions are carried out in the physical environment generates socio-environmental, economic and ecosystemic impacts, abbreviated in this research as "integrated impacts" that can be negative or positive. If on the side, impactscan aggravate resource scarcity, on the other sidethey can mitigate risks, contributing positively to species survival, quality of life improvements, use of renewable resources, among other positive results. The Urbanistic Architects, designers and managers are actors of development of the cities and act with responsibilities proportional to the impacts generated in the intervention places. The University has a high potential to transform the reality of the environment, because by becoming a good example,it can teachpeople to bemultipliers of good practices that improve the environmental performances in the places of conviviality. This potential educator can be directed to Sustainability and this challenge motivated the research with the focus on the subjects of Ecoefficiency and Bioclimatology applied to Architecture and Urbanism. The Campus of UFSB in Porto Segurowas chosen as the object of study. Simultaneous roles as author of the research and urban architect of this universityfavor the exchange of lessons learned and the feedback of the research for the projects in development andfrom projects for the research. The research was developed in five stages that include:1ª-Good Practice Study based on Literary Review;2ª-Exploratory research involving field visits and interviews in national and international universitiesto experience practices with high environmental performance;3ª-Pilot Project;4ª-Case Studies: University of São Paulo; Freie Universität Berlin and Projects developed in Germany: "Waldorf School Uhlandshöhe"and Braunschweig University;5ª-Elaboration of the Plan of Actions of Low Integrated Impact, resulting from this research that contemplates guidelines and strategies that guide the development of the projects to improve the environmental performance of campus. It was gratifying to conclude that it is feasible to reduce integrated impacts through projects and actions that sensitize campus users to adopt conscious consumption practices through the pedagogy of example. One of the missions of the University can be to bring society closer to Sustainability, being a good example, exercising its educating role of making closerstudents, employees and visitorswhocan replicate actions that reduce the negative impacts. Experiencing good practices in theuniversity can be one of the most effective ways to teach and learn about Sustainability, since it contributes to making it a Laboratory where environmental actions and technologies can be developed directedto the renewal of natural resources and the current scenario.
