SUMMARY:

Humans have long used plant species for medicinal procedures and many substances responsible for the action have already been isolated and identified. However, there is still a vast number of plants whose chemical composition is unknown. Several techniques are used for the extraction of chemical constituents of plant species, one of them is the use of volatile organic solvents such as ethanol, methanol, ethyl acetate or its mixtures that in general, despite being effective in these processes have great flammability, high cost, high toxicity, long time for extraction and non biodegradability, which contradicts the idea of Green Chemistry,  that seeks efficient and environmentally friendly processes. The development of green solvents such as Eutectic Solvents (DESs) for the extraction of bioactive compounds emerge as a cleaner and environmentally friendly option, since they have lower toxicity, low cost, are biodegradable, high stability, besides being easy to prepare compared to conventional solvents. Thus, in this work, eutectic solvents based on acetylcholine, urea and citric acid were prepared for the extraction of bioactive compounds of miconia albicans commercialized and in natura, in vitro evaluations of antioxidant activity were performed by the method of sequestration with the free radical DPPH, evaluation of the composition of phenolics and total flavonoids in comparison to conventional solvents commonly used (ethanol and methanol). The results indicated that the extracts prepared by the DESs of Miconia albicans presented high levels of phenolics and flavonoids, 978.6 μg EAG/mL and 73 μg EQ/mL, compared to traditional solvents that presented values of 930.2 μg EAG/mL and 36 μg EQ/mL respectively. However, for the results of antioxidant activity, eutetic solvents showed low antioxidant activity index (AAI=0.25 and 0.41 μg/mL) while conventional solvents exhibited moderate index IAA (0.7 and 0.92 μg/mL).
