RESUMO:

The uses and occupations of the soil are directly or indirectly related to the environmental degradation, specially impacts in the hydrographic basins. Studies indicate that changes in the flow regime may be due, among other factors, anthropic or not, to changes in the type of land use. This work sought to verify the influence of the change of soil use and occupation on the water availability of the Buranhém river basin through the association between variables, qualitative and quantitative analysis, through analysis of images and graphs and descriptive statistics and application of the simple correlation method. To delimit the study area a Hydrologically Consistent Digital Elevation Model (MDEHC) was made using the raster images of the SRTM base. The pluviometric and fluviometric information were obtained from data series of the pluviometric and fluviometric stations of the area, imported at the National Water Agency (ANA) electronic website, and used to determine the average, minimum and maximum annual flows and permanence series for the monitoring point and annual total precipitation series. Land use and occupation data for the period from 1990 to 2007 were made available by the Forest Forum of the Extreme South of Bahia, while that of 1973 was generated by supervised classification of an image of Landsat 1 MMS satellite, and the other maps using images Landsat 5 TM. The preliminary results show that the river is less regularized, with a strong influence of the annual precipitation, which in turn presents variability related to climatic events El Ninõ and La Niña. Between 1973 and 1991 the loss of native vegetation, especially alluvial vegetation, was quite significant, being replaced by pasture, which is the landscape matrix present since the first year of the study, with some expansion of Eucalyptus monoculture after 2001. The distribution of precipitation occurs in the east-west direction, being larger near the exudation. The relief of the basin was also characterized, ranging from flat to hilly. These results justify the advance of the research, which will seek to correlate these variations with the water scenario.
