RESUMO:

The question that motivated the research: Is it possible to develop a reliable system of surface water monitoring in Arduino platform?

After researching content on low cost technological solutions, developed in Arduino platform, focused on the monitoring of surface water and the low availability of computerized systems in real time for data collection and transmission, a solution was planned and developed that would respond to the research. For this it was necessary the prototyping in Arduino of multiparameter solution that made the reading and transmission of the same data collected by other probes available in the market. Based on the parameters measured by the Hanna HI9828 probe, we searched the market for sensors that were interconnected and controlled by the Arduino to collect and have their data validated.

Data as Temperature; Totals of Dissolved Solids; Electroconductivity, Salinity, pH and Dissolved Oxygen were chosen for the development of the multiparameter probe in low cost platform.

In the research were identified two companies with apparent quality associated with their products, as well as compatibility of their solutions with the Arduino platform, are: DFROBOT and ATLAS SCIENTIFIC. Being the objective of the research the development of low cost, DFROBOT solution was selected by the criteria price and quality.

Imported components for prototyping started the process of physical interconnection and development of software for data collection, storage and transmission, for that were used: Arduino Mega; Sensor Shield Mega; Micro-SD storage module; SIM800L GSM module; Analog Sensor of Totals of Dissolved Solids; Dissolved Oxygen Analog Sensor; Analog pH sensor; Digital Temperature Sensor; Analogue Electro Conductivity Sensor; Analog signal isolators; LCD display 16x4 I2C and Power Bank.

After the prototyping step, comparative measurements were started using the two available probes, the Hanna HI9828 probe and the prototype probe now called Polypus. Source name in Latin for octopus and chosen because of the similarity between the animal and its tentacles with the developed probe.

The entire calibration process of the probes was done in a laboratory with the use of Buffer solutions in order to guarantee the reliability of the collected data. As samples to be analyzed, water was collected from the Mundaí and Buranhém rivers, artesian well water and water supplied by Embasa (Empresa Baiana de Águas e Saneamento).

The research showed that physical-chemical parameters of the waters are very sensitive to any variations of time and space, so in order to perform a comparative analysis of the results already collected the research is in the phase of statistical validation through the possibilities found in theoretical research in progress, being this the final process of validation of the research proposal.
