In this study, we discuss the ethnic-racial relations at the Federal University of Bahia, Campus Paulo Freire, and the role of affirmative actions in the process of training and transforming individuals into the university environment. This study originates from the reflections carried out with quota students, discusses the esteem and stigma (GOFFMAN, 1975) of being black in this educational institution and seeks to understand aspects of ethnic-racial relations from the perspective of the subjects involved and their reports of experience, considering the implementation of quota policy in this university. Upon application of a questionnaire semi-structured between black students enrolled in the Basic Area Entrance/ABI, we analyze the ways these students recall and report their experiences and set out their identity belongings through their narratives. These are being analyzed in the light of theoretical and methodological issues raised by Boaventura de Sousa Santos (2007) and Marie Christine Josso (2004), for which, narrating the experience of the subjects treated as underlings became a resistance tool and source of alternative knowledge. With the analytical reference reports of experiences of the students, we discussed how, to what extent and in which way the ethnic-racial relations can be given to read through a minibook, final educational research product in the Post Graduate Program in Teaching and Ethnic-Racial Relations (PPGER) of this university. With the study that will result from field research and will be presented in the minibook, we aim to contribute to the debate on absences and stereotypes of ethnic groups of Brazilian society, bringing the center of the discussion, the formation and transformation of the individual through their own narratives.
