THE BEAT-BELLY DANCE PERFORMANCE: A CULTURE OF STRUGGLES AND RESISTANCE

The research proposal was the production of a documentary video as a didactic product on dance-belly dance and its contributions in the strengthening of interpersonal relations and the construction of the social and political consciousness of the residents of the communities of Rio do Sul and Helvécia, in the district of Nova Viçosa , certified as remaining quilombolas by the Palmares Cultural Foundation since 2005, located on the banks of BR 101 in the extreme south of Bahia. Dance is one of the practices and / or cultural manifestations that exist in those communities. The performance triggered by the groups' dancers has as its climax the moment when women hit one belly in the other, an element that constitutes a fundamental choreographic trait whose gesture represents. For that, it was used of the social research with qualitative approach Minayo (2009). The theoretical anchorage is also composed by Paulo Freire (1995), Brandão (1985), Fanon (2008), Geertz (1989), Santos (2007 and 2017). The results indicate that the belly dance has contributed to the strengthening of the interpersonal relations and in the social and political formation of the residents between the past and present generations.
