RESUMO:

This intervention research project is dedicated to understanding and analyzing how student assistance contributes to the permanence of the quota students of the Baiano Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology, Teixeira de Freitas campus. This institution, in compliance with Law 12.711 / 2011, reserves a percentage of places for public school students, and among these there are reservations for political minorities, such as blacks, indigenous people and people with disabilities. More than the minimum of 50% foreseen by law, IF Baiano covers a percentage of 70% of vacancies aimed at students coming from public education, taking as an entry form the analysis of the school history. In view of these measures, the growing change in the profile of incoming students is evident, especially in the modality that has a greater competition: Integrated High School. These students will be the focus of this research, since, in the daily work, it is possible to observe that the evasions of these occur not primarily due to financial difficulties, but also, due to lack of adaptation to the institution. It is also noticeable that the permanence, not infrequently, is accompanied by a process of psychic suffering, which may add to physical symptoms of illness. Thus, it is assumed that institutional racism and other phenomena linked to ethnic-racial inequality can contribute to this situation.
