RESUMO:

Brazilian culture is diverse, the result of the union of several cutural elements, such as language, music, dance and among others, native of african religions.  Afro-Brazilian dances, due to their dynamics and peculiar characteristics, present dialogues with their ancestors throughout history. These characteristics represent the simplicity of the cultural expressions, the beliefs and the faith of several existing communities in Brazil. From these considerations, in this project, we are analyzing the samba of St. Benedict the Moor, which emerged in the region in 1945 from a group of revelers formed by players and dancers who carried the image of the saint in a wooden box and ornaments. The Community of São Benedito is located where the Helvécia quilombo was. It is located between the cities of Teixeira de Freitas and Caravelas, in the extreme south of Bahia. Residents who were mostly devotees of the Saint, were dazzled by the presence of the group and the Saint. According to some reports on the history of this cultural event, the revelers walked from a region close to Nova Viçosa / Bahia making short stops in the houses where the revelers were welcomed and received food. Thus, this research elaborates a reflection on the need for the ethnic-racial historical valorization of St. Benedict samba. The research aims to identify the historical and cultural contributions that the samba of St. Benedict attributes to the teaching of ethnic-racial relations, recognizing the importance of it for Afro-Brazilian culture within the Community. The results of the research will be presented in a didactic product, which is not yet fully defined, and may be a paradidical material, a blog or other form of language that constitutes a valuable didactic contribution to the teaching of ethnic-racial relations.
