RESUMO:

Quotas in education represent a milestone with regard to the adoption of affirmative action policies in Brazil, increasing the possibilities of access for black and poor students to a historically elitist environment: the academy. In this context, considering that affirmative policies do not end with access, student assistance seeks to contribute to ensuring the permanence of students in official educational institutions. In this research developed through the Graduate Program in Teaching and Ethnic-Racial Relations at the Federal University of Sul Bahia, we seek to question whether this policy contributes, in the students' opinion, to staying in this space; also analyzing their opinion about affirmative policies and what is developed on campus. We emphasize that the idea of permanence adopted here has as parameter two distinct but complementary perspectives: material permanence, linked to the objective conditions of survival; and the symbolic permanence, linked to a subjective dimension of integration to these spaces. The subjects of this research will be students from the Integrated High School of the Bahia Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology from Bahia - Teixeira de Freitas campus. For data collection we will apply a questionnaire and conduct a focus group.
