The construction of maternal identity among black women in the Liberdade II neighborhood in Teixeira de Freitas / BA
Black women. Mothers. Maternities. Identities.
The research aims to reflect how a group of women, self-declared black, from the Liberdade II neighborhood, Teixeira de Freitas, Bahia, elaborate identity belongings regarding black motherhood. In this sense, from the itineraries of this group of black women, the dissertation under construction will present, albeit briefly, how perceptions about their maternity conditions are elaborated. We dialogue with the discussions elaborated by Stuart Hall (2006, 2008, 2016) and Kabengele Munanga (2005, 2015) because we believe that the contributions made by these scholars conferred in studies on sociocultural identities are fruitful. In the context of questions about black women, we dialogue with the studies prepared by Alberto Heráclito Ferreira Filho (2003), Anne Cova (2005), Fabiana Carneiro da Silva (2017), Suely Carneiro (2002, 2003, 2016), Conceição Evaristo (2002 ), Ida Maria Freire (2014), Lucila Scavone (2001), Cecília Moreira Soares (1994), Maria Aparecida Prazeres Sanches (1998) and Francisco Antonio Nunes Neto (2005) because we understand that these studies are references through which we can better to analyze how black maternity hospitals are developed among the interlocutors of this research. We chose the qualitative methodology for the analysis of the study, understanding that it is the best path and strategy because it is a social research in which eight black mothers residing in Bairro Liberdade II are our interlocutors. The research has identified that black women still find different difficulties in the exercise of motherhood, this, aggravated in facing the machismo built under the aegis of patriarchy in Brazilian society.
