RACE, SOCIAL CLASS AND PERMANENT EDUCATION IN SOCIAL ASSISTANCE IN PORTO SEGURO/BA
Race; Social Class; Permanent Education; Social Assistance.
The present master's research project consists of investigating the relationship between
race, social class and continuing education and get to know how the technicians who work
in the Porto Seguro Social Assistance units perceive the relationship between the
aforementioned categories. This qualitative, participatory and interdisciplinary research is
based on studies and critical research in the area of ethnic-racial relations in the country
and is anchored in the methodology of action research. It begins with the seed of concern
based on the empirical perception of the researcher, whose professional performance is
linked to municipal Social Assistance, on the absence of debate regarding racial relations in
professional daily life and is germinated and nourished with the apprehension of knowledge
within the scope of the Graduate Program in Teaching and Ethnic-Racial Relations
(PPGER/UFSB). Thus, it starts from the relationship between race and social class as
predominant aspects among users of Social Assistance in Porto Seguro and the search for
understanding how permanent education can play a relevant role in offering training
processes on racial relations in the territory. Methodologically, the research is organized in
stages, starting with the bibliographic and documentary research, alongside the application
of an initial virtual questionnaire on the perceptions of the technicians working in the
Municipal Social Assistance of Porto Seguro on the subject and, later, the holding of
thematic workshops in conjunction with the Continuing Education Sector of the area in the
municipality for the construction of the final product - Formative study - as a formative
instrument that can be used in permanent education processes. In this way, the present
project aims to provide moments of study, reflection and encouragement, together with the
technicians/those working in the Social Assistance units in Porto Seguro, the essential
necessity to recognize the correlation between ethnic-racial relations and the different
situations of social vulnerabilities faced by the black population, enabling critical, purposeful
interventions and in accordance with the emerging demands of social reality.
