SUMMARY:

This research seeks to discuss the relationship between the silencing imposed on the Camacã indigenous ethnic group, the official memory of the city of Camacan (BA) and the curricular model adopted in its official teaching network. It is perceived that there is a historical erasure of the Camacã People practiced since the formation of the municipality, which opted for the celebration of the “heroic past” built by its supposed founders: the families of cocoa farmers who came from Canavieiras; the “travellers or pioneers” who expanded cocoa farming on lands that had been expropriated by the indigenous groups that had always inhabited the area. The same process of territorial occupation was responsible for the systematic destruction of indigenous cultures throughout southern Bahia and bequeathed to them an attempt at genocide and ethnocide that not only dispersed the Camacã indigenous remnants, but also tried to declare their total extinction. of the same, excluding from the local memory the resistance and (re)existence of this population. Education in Camaca reproduces, in essence, the version of the Camacã as beings from the distant past, with simplifications and stereotypes that do not match reality or what Law 11.645/08 recommends, which made it mandatory to value indigenous histories and cultures in schools. Brazilian schools. We propose a counter-colonial re-reading of these representations, highlighting how much the Camacã are part of our community, our history, culture, memory, identity and deserve respect and recognition.
