SUMMARY

Ecosystem services can be defined as the benefits generated by nature for human health and well-being. Land use, included there, can affect the properties and functions of ecosystems, in addition to those services that can be demanded / offered in a feasible and viable way. Bearing in mind the interrelationships between ecosystem services, land use and human well-being, this work has the general objective of diagnosing such potential demands and/or offers made to improve the socio-environmental conditions of the municipality of Itabuna, based on the production of a diagnosis local environment and the potential ecosystem services to be offered. This general objective is subdivided into the following specific objectives: to carry out a meta-analysis on articles referring to supply / demand in the production of ecosystem services in municipal areas; characterize the socio-environmental impacts related to sustainability in land use and occupation and changes in potential ecosystem services in Itabuna; to investigate public policies, restored practices and possibilities for restoration and conservation of ecosystem services and environmental conditions in the municipality of Itabuna. In this sense, this study sought to answer two main questions: How have the concepts of demand and supply of ecosystem services been related to land use and municipal management of the territory? And how can municipalities increase their production of ecosystem services? Based on the guiding questions and the general objective, the specific objectives, with their respective developments, are treated separately in chapters. Thus, the thesis will be divided into three chapters, the first two already make up the qualification text and the third to be developed after qualification. Thus, the qualification text is structured as follows: chapter 1 entitled "Municipal ecosystem services: a systematic review", this chapter presents a systematic review of studies on ecosystem services in municipal areas already carried out and published in the world, since 2015 And chapter 2 “Environmental analysis of the municipality of Itabuna-BA” brings an environmental analysis through mapping, description and analysis of land use and occupation and the historical characterization of the municipality. And finally, the final considerations and future notes for the conclusion of the thesis.
