SUMMARY:

The cabruca agrosystem has conservationist importance, provides several environmental services, in addition to having a relevant economic and social role in the cocoa region of southern Bahia.However, the human/plant relationship in this agrosystem is generally treated in the literature.This study describes and analyzes the knowledge and local use of cabruca plants used by settlers in the Buíque and Itararé Settlement Projects in the municipality of Buerarema, Bahia.For this, 39 semi-structured interviews were carried out in the Buíque (15) and Itararé (24) settlements, to collect socioeconomic information and data on the knowledge and use of cabruca plants.The importance of each species was assessed by calculating the Use Value (VU).Most respondents in both settlements are male, from the adult and elderly age groups, married, with incomplete primary education and Catholics.Although cocoa is the main economic activity of the settlements, their income is complemented by the sale of fruits, pulps, the cultivation of vegetables, as well as government aid (pensions and family allowance) and other activities.Regarding ethnobotanical knowledge, 64 ethnospecies were mentioned in the Buíque settlement and 60 ethnospecies in the Itararé settlement.The use categories with the highest number of citations in the Buíque settlement were construction (19) and medicinal (17), while in the Itararé settlement it was the construction (25) and food (17) categories.Vinhático (VU= 2) had the highest use value (VU) in the Buíque settlement and jackfruit (VU=1.58) was the Ethnospecies with the highest VU in Itararé.
