PARTICIPATORY DIAGNOSIS OF ARTISANAL FISHING IN FISHING COMMUNITIES ON THE ITACARÉ COAST (BAHIA, BRAZIL) AS A SUBSIDY FOR SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL

Fishing is considered one of the oldest and most important sources of food and income for humanity. With the advancement of studies, the need to explore natural resources in a sustainable way was realized. Believing that participatory management with society is a guaranteed way to guarantee biodiversity, food security and income supplementation, this project aims to carry out a participatory diagnosis of artisanal fishing in the municipality of Itacaré-BA, and create subsidies for the reformulation of public policies in order to boost the implementation of a Marine Extractive Reserve. The research is descriptive-exploratory with a quali-qualitative approach using the Rural/Rapid Participatory Diagnosis (DRP), through pre-structured interviews with 64 fishermen resident in Itacaré, in addition to preparing a historical calendar of artisanal fishing, analysis of the life cycle of fish identified in artisanal fishing and analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to artisanal fishing in line with sustainable development. To analyze the qualitative and quantitative data, the Morisita Similarity Coefficient (CH) and the Jaccard Coefficient (Ccj) will be used. Such analyzes will allow verifying the similarity in the composition of fish caught between summer and winter, as well as comparing these data to those of Burda and Schiavetti (2008) sampled in 2006. The proposition of this project aims to contribute to the scientific literature in the production of data capable of directing public authorities and civil society to reformulate public policies.
