SUMMARY:

Mental disorders represent an important public health problem with an incidence of around 20- 25% in the Brazilian population. Depression is the condition that most affects pregnant women with a prevalence of between 10-15% of mental disorder diagnoses in this group, resulting in increased consumption of psychotropic medications, low quality of life for women and risks for the child. Physical activity in this context seems to contribute as a safe and effective measure, generating benefits for physical and mental health. This study is a systematic review that aims to describe the relationship between physical activity and the occurrence of depressive disorders during pregnancy and the possible influence of the characteristics of the living environment and sociodemographic profile. Materials and methods: the study will be submitted to PROSPERO to obtain the Systematic Review registration number. The PICOS strategy was used for the eligibility criteria, reaching the research question “What are the sociodemographic and physical activity factors related to depression during pregnancy?”. The studies included in this review will be observational (case-control, cross-sectional and prospective cohort). The following will be excluded: Letter to the editor, Comments on Studies, Editorials, Opinion of authors, Case studies. Structured searches will be carried out in PUBMED, LILACS, MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Ovid's All EBM Reviews, Scopus, Web of Science, Ovid PsycINFO, Sport Discus, ERIC, Child Development and Adolescent Studies, Cochrane databases using the main basic terms physical, pregnancy, depression. The extracted data will be organized in Excel tables and will include the study design, year, sample size, country and population characteristics, exposure and results. We will provide summaries of exposure effects for each study by calculating odds ratios (for dichotomous outcomes) or weighted mean differences (for continuous outcomes). The quality of evidence from selected studies will be assessed using the GRADE protocol. It is expected to achieve as a result the knowledge about the participation of physical activity in the attenuation of the symptoms of depression and the knowledge of the sociodemographic profile of pregnant women, expanding the strategies about the control of gestational depression through the practice of physical activity, adding greater scientific bases to the healthcare professionals.
