SUMMARY:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the main forms of control came from the implementation of public health measures, such as social distancing, promoting a complete change in the daily routine and lifestyle of university students. Knowing this, it becomes important to understand how these new daily habits affected the lifestyle of this group. The objective is to analyze the association between social distancing and the lifestyle of university students from Brazilian public higher education institutions during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an epidemiological, observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. This study is part of the research project “Impact of the pandemic on the lifestyle of HEI students and employees: Estimates in relation to Covid-19”. Data collection took place randomly during the months of September and October 2020 through an online Google Forms form. The population of this study will be composed of students of face-to-face courses at the following institutions: Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), Federal University of Southern Bahia (UFSB), Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), State University of Santa Cruz (UESC ), Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM), Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) and Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). Students who agreed to participate via consent through the Free and Informed Consent Form (FICF) and who had an active institutional link with the selected university during the data collection period will be included. The exclusion criteria will be: being younger than 18 years old and who filled out the questionnaire incompletely, being applied after tabulating the data. Information regarding sociodemographic data, social distancing and lifestyle variables (physical activity, diet, sedentary behavior and sleep) will be extracted. Data will be tabulated and treated using Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet and PSPP version 1.0.1 software. Descriptive statistics of absolute and relative frequencies, average, standard deviation, minimum and maximum were used to characterize the sample. To evaluate the association between variables, Pearson's Chi-square test will be applied, refuting or not the null hypothesis of independence (p<0.005). It is believed that, after carrying out this study, it will be possible to analyze the association between social distancing and the lifestyle of university students from institutions participating in this project during COVID-19. of actions and projects developed by universities aimed at the health and well-being of university students
