SUMMARY:

People with type 1 diabetes and in many cases type 2 diabetes need to use insulin for their survival, however access to insulin therapy is not always easy. This work aims to verify how the flow of access to insulin therapy for people with diabetes in the city of Teixeira de Freitas/BA works, what are its potentialities and bottlenecks. This is an observational, exploratory, crosssectional and descriptive study, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, where the steps will be carried out: (1) document analysis of the legislation on access to insulins and supplies for people with diabetes; (2) interview with professionals involved with insulin therapy in Teixeira de Freitas; (3) comparison of the theoretical flow with the actual access to insulin treatment in patients with diabetes in the municipality, through the analysis of data collected in the interviews and the bibliographical survey. It is hoped that this work will outline the flow of access to insulin therapy for patients with diabetes in the city of Teixeira de Freitas, as well as carry out an assessment of its potentialities and bottlenecks.
