SUMMARY:

Introduction: Saliva is a fluid of glandular origin that coats the oral surface and has very different physicochemical properties. Approximately 1,500 ml of saliva are produced per day, of which 75% is produced by the submandibular gland, 20% by the parotid gland and 5% is divided into sublingual and minor glands, and with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, several implications associated with the SARSCoV-2 virus, as is the case of oronasal sensory sequelae and because it is a highly infectious virus that is transmitted through droplets of saliva from infected people, there was an interest in studying more about salivary parameters (salivary flow, pH and salivary buffering capacity) of patients submitted to laser photobiomodulation in the treatment of these alterations. Objective: To evaluate the salivary parameters of individuals undergoing laser photobiomodulation for the treatment of changes in taste and smell induced by covid-19. Methodology: A prospective clinical study, in which we had groups of patients who had alterations in taste and smell who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 more than 30 days ago, and the participants were randomly assigned to the groups without knowing which group they belonged to. The oral laser (n=11), nasal laser (n=8), sham (placebo) (n=4) and control (n=10) groups. The indices that determine the gustatory and olfactory functions, the salivary parameters were evaluated and low-power laser treatment was offered, thus hoping that this research can contribute to the development of care protocols for patients with COVID-19 with oronasal sensory sequelae. Preliminary results: The demography of the analyzed data shows that the distribution of age ranged from 18 to 57 years, with an average of ± 36.35, with a greater representation of females (63.64%), compared to males ( 36.36%). Prevalence of white (36.36%), black (6.06%), brown (48.49%) and yellow (9.09%) races was observed. After analysis in GraphPad Prism 7, the groups analyzed in the research did not have significant differences.
