BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Saúde Coletiva
SUMMARY:

Studies on the records of natural disasters that occurred in Brazil between 1991 and 2012 indicated that 126,926,656 million people were affected by natural disasters. The risk perception of these disasters, classified according to their nature, can be divided into: cognitive, behavioral, socioeconomic, demographic, geographic, informational and contextual factors. We believe it is necessary to carry out a study to assess the perception of the affected population and health professionals in coping with natural disasters (flooding, flash floods and waterlogging) in cities in the extreme south of Bahia. How does attachment to the place influence the relationship between the perception of environmental risks related to natural disasters and the intention to adopt preventive behaviors towards these same risks? The present study is a descriptive exploratory research through qualitative/quantitative data collection by means of pre-structured questionnaires. The study will employ sample populations (affected population and health professionals) in the cities of Eunápolis, Porto Seguro, Prado, Itamaraju and Teixeira de Freitas (extreme south of Bahia). For the affected population, the interview will be applied door to door, with an estimated 70 people per city (ideal public at the level of reliability of 90% and margin of error of 10%), totaling a sample of 350 individuals, all over 18 years old, addressing socio-demographic data, risk perception, site attachment, risk behavior and perception of health risk. For health professionals (doctors, nurses and nursing technicians), the interview will be applied only to those who work in the UBS of communities exposed to the risks of natural disasters, estimating around 40 health professionals per city, totaling a sample of 200 individuals, Addressing socio-demographic data, perception of professionals on preventive and mitigating measures for environmental disasters, perception of actions taken by health professionals, perception of health professionals regarding post-event losses from natural disasters, perception of health professionals regarding post-event challenges. The results of the research will produce data capable of guiding the public authorities and civil society in conducting urban transformation processes and (re)formulating public policies.
