SUMMARY:

Background: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder related to breathing that affects millions of people worldwide, as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, including Heart Failure (HF). Its tracking and stratification by simple tools in primary care may provide adequate management for the problem. Objective: Correlate the risk of OSA, using the STOP-Bang Questionnaire (SBQ), with incipient cardiovascular changes on echocardiogram, in primary care patients without clinical symptoms of HF. Methodology: Exploratory analytical cross-sectional study that aims to select patients from primary care in Porto Seguro-BA. The selected individuals will undergo: medical appointment, response to QSB, clinical exam and Tissue Doppler Echocardiogram (TDE). Continuous data may be presented as medians, interquartile ranges, mean and standard deviation, according to the collected data distribution. The OSA associated variables at a level of 0.05 will integrate into the gamma regression models with the log link function. Crude analysis: A p-value < 0.05 will be considered as an statistical significance indicator. Expected results: It’s expected to confirm the correlation between high risk for OSA and the presence of incipient cardiac structure and/or function changes, showing the importance of SBQ as a screening method at primary health care level.
