SUMMARY:

The economic and financial review in beef cattle farming is a critical factor for the success and sustainability of this agricultural activity. Raising cattle for meat production plays a fundamental role in the economy of many countries, providing a valuable source of animal protein. However, for beef cattle farming to be a profitable and rigorous endeavor, it is necessary for producers to adopt management practices that ensure the profitability of the business. The importance of economic and financial forecasting in beef cattle farming, such as a meticulous analysis of costs, revenues, and investments, plays a crucial role in decision-making, profit maximization, and ensuring a sustainable future for this highly relevant activity. In this study, the objective was to evaluate the production costs and economic viability of rotational grazing and conventional systems in a rain-fed context, using Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu grass for beef cattle farming on a medium-sized property in the southernmost part of Bahia, Brazil. Data was collected from July to December 2023, including zootechnical, financial, and economic information for subsequent analysis of profitability indicators using indices such as Cash Flow, IRR, MARR, NPV, and Payback with a Selic interest rate of 13.25% per annum. Based on the results obtained, we conclude that the company is in a stable position and has the potential for medium and long-term growth. Furthermore, the implementation of the rotational grazing system has proven to be economically and financially viable, yielding a financial return on investment in approximately 2.37 years. This system has enabled more efficient production with a higher yield of arrobas per hectare and better forage utilization, while also contributing to the reduction of pasture degradation compared to extensive management. Studies of this nature have the potential to assist rural producers in anticipating optimistic and pessimistic scenarios in the beef market, enabling them to make informed decisions for the growth and sustainability of their businesses.
