SUMMARY:

The Atlantic Forest faces intense anthropogenic pressures that have resulted in significant changes to the landscape. In this context, our study aims to analyze the effects of habitat fragmentation on the functional diversity (DF) of aquatic macroinvertebrates and evaluate the use of eDNA metabarcoding as a biomonitoring tool in these ecosystems. We will use tank bromeliad microcosms as study models due to the complexity of the interactions that occur in these environments and their ability to reflect changes on a broader scale throughout the forest fragment. The central hypothesis of the project is that changes in the landscape influence the functional diversity of the bromelicola macroinvertebrate community, since the process of loss of native vegetation and homogenization of the landscape can influence some functional groups differently. Collections will be carried out in areas of Conservation Units in the municipalities of Porto Seguro, Santa Cruz Cabrália and Guaratinga. In each area, ten terrestrial bromeliads will be chosen, data will be obtained regarding the plant's architecture, we will collect the organic matter contained in the tanks and transfer it to individual bags. With a multiparameter probe we will collect physical and chemical data on phytotelm. The volume of phytotelm will be transferred to individual pots and 60ml of each sample will be used for eDNA extraction. To obtain the incidence of radiation on each individual, it will be measured with the Gap Light Analyzer software. In the laboratory, the volume and mass of organic matter will be measured, as well as screening of aquatic macroinvertebrates, they will be identified to the lowest taxonomic level possible and categorized according to their functional attributes. Land use and occupation data will be taken from MapBiomas and visualized in QGIS software. After all data has been calculated, bioinformatics and functional diversity analyzes will be carried out using the R software. Our expected results consist of understanding the effects of changes in the landscape on the functional diversity of aquatic macroinvertebrates and contributing to the elucidation of the processes that shape communities, enriching with information about these species, providing valuable information for the conservation and management of ecosystems in the region.
