Inventory of snake species on the Discovery Coast (Bahia) as a subsidy for environmental education in the region.
serpent; snake; environmental education; preservation; Bahia.
Snakes are among the animals most persecuted by humans, although they play an important role in nature. Detailed data on the distribution of Brazilian snakes remains scarce, a fact also recorded on the Discovery Coast, Bahia, Brazil. This research aims to conduct a bibliographic survey on snake species in the region, in order to prepare a catalog of species that will help in conducting future environmental education actions aimed at preserving snakes and rationalizing antivenoms. In the Environmental Technologies (AT) research line, the project will seek to promote environmentally sustainable technological innovations, through the creation or improvement of processes and services that enable harmonious coexistence between humans and snakes. It is expected that there are at least 60 species of snakes on the Discovery Coast, of which less than 10% are of medical importance (venomous).
