Assessment of At-Risk Foot in Elderly People with Diabetes in the Municipality of Itamaraju, Bahia

Objective: To investigate the factors associated with at-risk foot in elderly people with diabetes in the city of Itamaraju, Bahia. Methods: This is an analytical cross-sectional study that will be conducted with elderly individuals enrolled and cared for in basic health units in Itamaraju, Bahia. Primary data will be collected using instruments from the American Diabetes Association Foot Care Interest Group Task Force Report, endorsed by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and secondary data will be gathered from participants' medical records. Quantitative data will also be collected through an electronic form completed by researchers with participants. The data will be analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics (hypothesis tests in bivariate analysis and logistic regression models). This work is part of the biggest project “Factors associated with frailty and foot risk in elderly people with diabetes in the city of Itamaraju, Bahia: cross-sectional study” submitted to CEP/UFSB in March 2023 with CAAE: 79286624.4.0000.8467. Expected Results: The study aims to contribute to reducing the risk of complications related to the feet of elderly people with diabetes, provide adequate referral of at-risk individuals to specialist doctors in the city studied, and offer diabetes education activities to participants and their caregivers.
