RESUMO:

This work intends to explore the field of a history of historical time in Brazil. In order to do so, a series of events and narratives that compose some actions of "celebration of the 439 years of Brazil" will be selected. The historical landscape of the southern coast of Bahia, in particular the city of Porto Seguro, was designed with the objective to make a history of the social and political uses of the history of the "Discovery of Brazil". Having as content practices and discourses that somehow both interpreted and invented a Brazilian historical experience from the repetitions of its founding myth. Our object of research is the "Raid" of 1939 to the city of Porto Seguro as commemoration of the Wings of New Brazil to the date of the Discovery. It is the reactivation of this event with its discourses and practices that act in the configuration of narratives of the Brazilian historical experience that we investigate. It seeks to know the forms and contents of these theatricals of history. The "Discovery of Brazil" becomes, in this way, an articulating theme of different issues. Its approach will be through the investigation of two phenomena that are related and that has as its background a common problematic related to historical time. These phenomena are: the actions of commemoration of the Discovery of Brazil; and the processes of patrimonialization of this history that took place in the city of Porto Seguro and region. In this sense, "discovery" becomes the key concept with which the conceptual framework that addresses the meanings and uses of "celebration" and "heritage" as elements of a historical experience and strategies of invention of a national memory and history . It is about approaching the "Discovery of Brazil" in its materiality and repetition, that is, to analyze how the event of the arrival of the squadron commanded by Cabral in 1500 is unfolded in diverse appropriations. It aims to problematize the social and political uses of this history as "operations of cultural ritualization" at times of "theatricalisation of power." In this sense, we intend to investigate "what is the role of rites and celebrations in the renewal of political hegemony". Combining to these questions a reflection on the historicity of the processes of patrimonialization of Porto Seguro, which would be justified by the attribution of historical value that feeds on and covers the events and narratives of the "discovery". The repetitions of this founding myth thus become the object of investigation of the ways in which social and political forces reinvent the past and the means that use them to legitimize the present and project the future.
